At ACCRECENT, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, transparency, and ethical responsibility in CE content development. This policy provides guidelines on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools by authors contributing to ACCRECENT.
1. Authorship and responsibility
AI tools or software cannot be listed as authors. Authorship is limited to individuals who can take full responsibility for the submitted content's accuracy, integrity, and originality.
CMEPEDIA will review the request and consult with Accrecent to determine the best approach for providing an appropriate accommodation.
2. Disclosure requirements
Any use of AI tools in content creation must be transparently disclosed. Authors are required to specify:
The name and version of the AI tool used.
The purpose of the AI tool (e.g., grammar correction, data analysis, summarisation, or content generation).
The extent of its application within the manuscript.
Disclosures should be included in the acknowledgements section or as a footnote in the methods section.
3. Acceptable uses of AI tools
AI tools may be used for:
Language editing and grammar correction.
Data processing and visualisation (where the tool is validated).
Literature summarisation for background information (with author validation).
Assisting in the drafting of the course layout, the actual content is provided, reviewed, edited, and validated by the authors.
4. Unacceptable uses of AI tools
AI tools must not be used for:
Generating original research data or fabricating results.
Manipulating or creating images, figures, or charts.
Producing plagiarised content or violating copyright.
Drafting conclusions or recommendations without human oversight and validation.
5. Accountability
Authors are fully accountable for all aspects of their submissions, including those supported by AI tools.
Any inaccuracies or ethical breaches related to the use of AI tools will be addressed in accordance with ACCRECENT’s misconduct policy.
6. Guidance for peer reviewers
Peer reviewers must not use AI tools for confidential manuscript reviews or any task that compromises the integrity of the review process.
Reviewers must disclose any AI use in their evaluation reports.
7. Ethical considerations
Authors must validate any AI-assisted content for accuracy and appropriateness.
AI tools should not be used to bypass the intellectual rigour and creativity expected in CE content creation.
